Power Supply Input EMC Filter Design for EMC Compliance
Hands-On EMC Seminar for Power Supply EMI Filter Design
Overview

This Power Supply EMC/EMI Filter Design Workshop is truly unique. While most EMC seminars consist of a few hours of theory followed by a single demonstration, our workshop gives you extensive hands‑on experience in a fully equipped lab. Our lab-based course is set up to consist of at least 10 spectrum analyzers, 10 pre‑compliance LISNs, 10 Bode 100 network analyzers, 10 oscilloscopes and the host of bespoke teaching boards, allowing you to put theory into practice.
We believe no other training in the world offers such a well equipped laboratory for EMI filter design and debugging. By the end, you will have designed several filters down to the component level and gained the confidence and proficiency to use this equipment in your own work.
These workshops are designed for engineers who:
- Need to understand the fundamentals of EMC filter design, stability, and design techniques
- Want to become confident and proficient in designing all major types of EMC filters
- Are working under time pressure and want to accelerate their design process, reduce time to market, and minimize costly design iterations
- Need to quickly get comfortable using EMC test equipment (such as LISNs and spectrum analyzers) for pre‑compliance testing and debugging
- Need to add a minimum of 22 hours of continuous professional development to their portfolio
Workshop Overview
Starting from basic principles taught during the workshop, you will be able to design input and output filters to meet the specifications required to pass the EU’s conducted emission tests such as EN 55022/EN55032 or CISPR22 . In addition to all necessary equations and step-by-step design guides for both DC-DC and AC-DC Line filters.
The workshop is 3 days long and in addition to all the fundamentals, it will cover everything that you need in order to design effective EMC filters:
- EMI filter design fundamentals input and output filters
- Understanding how to meet EMC directive’s specifications
- Power supply/filter interaction and Middlebrook’s stability criteria
- DC-DC input and output filter design
- AC/DC EMI Line filter design for PFC driven products
- 2 stage filter/4th order filter design down to component level
All participants will receive a full license for our WDS power supply design software as well as Biricha’s EMC Filter Design Tool. These powerful tools simplify laborious calculations, allowing trained engineers to Design EMI filters quickly and effectively.
All material is supported with great presentations, numerous SPICE simulations, filter design equation sheets of all equations and of course numerous hands-on-labs.
The attendees normally work pairs at a workstation. We have a total of 10 workstations, so the total number of attendees is typically limited to 20 engineers.
Upon completion of the course, you will receive a certificate for your personal development file. You must complete at least 85% of of the workshop to obtain your certificate.

Workshop Locations
Montreal, Canada: We are located at the very heart of Montreal, at the Goethe Institut near Place des Arts, within a few minutes walking distance of hotels, shops, restaurants and coffee shops. You will be within a few minutes walking distance of Saint Laurent Metro Station. Montreal has excellent public transport links including Uber and Taxis are readily available and therefore you do not need a rental car for this location.
Montreal-Pierre Elliott Trudeau International Airport (YUL) connects the city to the world, with direct flights from major cities across North America and Europe. From the airport, downtown Montreal is just a 20-minute ride via taxi, Uber, or public transportation (bus 747 to station Berri-UQAM and then take the green line Metro and head in the direction of Angrignon to Saint Laurent Metro station).
Known for its warm hospitality, vibrant atmosphere, and rich history, Montreal provides the perfect balance of professional development and cultural exploration. There are many affordable hotels nearby with several being located less than a 5 minute walking distance. Click here for a map of nearby hotels.
Freiham (Munich), Germany: The workshop venue is located at the state-of-the-art facilities of WĂĽrth Elektronik in a peaceful setting, perfect for focused learning. Attendees can extend their stay to enjoy the rich history and culture of Bavaria, one of Germany’s most picturesque regions.
Freiham is easily accessible by train, car, or air. The nearest airport is Munich International Airport (MUC), just a short taxi, Uber ride or train ride away. There is a direct route from Munich Airport: train S8 from the airport in the direction of Herrsching and get off at Bahnhof Freiham. There are hotels, restaurants, and shops within walking distance of our venue. You do not need a rental car for this location. There is a hotel opposite the venue called Coffee Fellows, click here for their website.
Other locations: Our workshops are only offered in the listed locations. Each session is highly lab-intensive and requires a large amount of specialized equipment. Because of this, we are unable to host workshops in other locations, as transporting the equipment across borders and through customs presents significant logistical challenges
